BEHIND THE SCENES
VALUES, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
AND IMPACT
MATERIALS & HARDWARE SOURCING - We use a range of materials that is sourced far and wide. Often diverting from landfill or providing a new home for a materials that evoke certain memories and feeling of comfort. Every material we see as a precious resource. Whether it is preloved, remnants, vintage, exisiting in an already made pre-loved garment, dead stock fabric or may seem quite unconventional, we love a challenge and aim to find a use for it.
HARDWARE - Fasteners such as buttons and zips are sourced from flea markets, second hand stores, antiquities or even donated. Many Lightening zips and other vintage fasteners were donated from the Haberdashery store which Meg’s Nanna operated in the 50s-60s.
PACKAGING & FREIGHT - We use recycled and upcycled packaging to protect all orders, which requires postage to its new home.
We love adding the finishing touches with unique wrapping, getting creative with packaging, being mindful to use recycled, recyclable and/ up-cycled materials - creating a unique considered package for your new Meg Parry Studio piece. We offer the option to collect from our workshop studio as well, so if you plan to be in the area, you will need to nominate a collection time when placing your order - this will not only save you on postage and handling fees, however, using any unnecessary resources.
SHARING IDEAS - Meg Parry currently is a lecturer at COLLARTS in Fitzroy, Melbourne. She runs up-cycle design workshops independently and through COLLARTS to share ideas, approaches and techniques in sustainable design thinking.
SKILLS TRAINING - Designer & Maker Space is a creative co-working space founded by Meg, providing opportunity for local makers and designers to practice and train in their craft on industrial specialised equipment. This inclusive space aims to provide more people with accessibility to manufacturing equipment and ideas in Melbourne, Australia.

In the studio, Meg’s pieces have gone many hours of craftsmanship. This includes the stages you may not see; sourcing materials, planning, designing, materials testing, development, pattern making, sampling, and we have not even got to a finished product yet.
With an emphasis on story telling through products adorned on the body and in our surrounding environment; garments, accessories and interior products, Meg aims to connect people through craftsmanship.
“There is a deep comfort found in working with materials that have had their own story, a past life. Of course, clothing can protect, provide warmth and functionality, however, it is how they form vessels of emotional support, engage communities and explore heritage, which I find most interesting. Exploring the material connections we have with physical objects, encourages people to reconsider their own relationship with their clothes and surrounding objects. In exploring this idea, hopefully people change they way people enjoy and consume products for generations to come.” - Meg Parry
